What you should know

Stands for Motion Picture Association of America. It's an American trade association that represents all the film distributors in North America. Its main purpose is to provide and enforce guidelines for creating film content.  Basically, it's their job to protect the viewers from watching inappropriate or unexpected content. They do this by implementing the Production Code which spells out what is acceptable and not acceptable content for motion pictures. And of course they administer the MPAA film rating system which determines a film's rating.
